How to reach Chikmagalur

There is no operational airport in Chikmagalur yet. The nearest airport is Mangalore International Airport which is around 170 km away. The Mangalore Airport is well-connected by flights from Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai and other major cities.
Hiring a prepaid taxi from airport or taking a bus operated by KSRTC is the best option to reach Chikmagalur.
BIAL airport at Bangalore which is situated 250 KM from Chikmagalur is also very well connected with major national and international locations and approximately a 5-hour drive by car and KSRTC bus is among the best options to reach Chikmagalur.

For Direct Trains: There is a daily passenger train that runs between Yeshwantpur (Bangalore) and Chikmagalur. It departs Yeshwantpur at 15:30 and reaches Chikmagalur at 22:30.
For faster connections, reaching Kadur/Hassan and then using KSRTC Bus service to reach Chikmagalur is the alternative.
Chikmagalur is very well-connected by KSRTC (Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation) and private luxury buses from cities like Bangalore, Mangalore, Chennai, and Hubli.
There are buses departing from Bangalore at least once every 60 minutes during day.
The weekend buses are almost always full, so the journey must be planned appropriately. KSRTC buses are comfortable, especially the Airavata Volvo buses.
You can reach Chikmagalur by road from Bangalore. The fastest route is via Hassan which is on NH 48. The road from Hassan to Chickmagalur is fairly good with 2 way lane with good scenic view around the road.
The alternate route is to reach via Tumkur and Arsikere/Kadur. This route is very well laid but most of the parts are with single road making drive a little congested.
But arriving by car gives you a flexible option to tourist visit the places around Chikmagalur.
